Mobile broadband FAQs

Here are a number of frequently asked questions relating to mobile broadband, these should help answer any questions you have, if they don't then please drop an e-mail to enquiries@mobilebroadbandonline.co.uk and one of the team will endeveaur to get back to you.

What are the costs of mobile broadband?

The price of mobile broadband is coming down all the time, and you can now get broadband on the move from as little as £10.00 a month. In addition to this there are pay per day packages offered by some providers, so you can get internet access for short periods of time. How much download allowance can I get?

The download allowances or limits appear to be pretty small in comparison to traditional broadband providers, which offer unlimited or huge 40GB allowances on there more expensive packages.

The allowances range from 1GB to 7GB depending on provider and package, for instance 3 Mobile offer 1GB, 3GB and 7GB packages for prices ranging from £10 to £25

What will these usage allowances let me do?

Contrary to popular belief, you can do a fair amount with what appears to be a small download allowance. An allowance of 1GB sounds like it wouldn't stretch far, but you would be surprised!
1GB will allow you to surf the web for over 100 hours, or download around 200 music tracks or send over 1000 plain text messages (or some combination of these).
3GB will allow you to surf the web for over 300 hours, or download around 600 music tracks or send over 3000 plain text messages (or some combination of these).
This shows that even on the lowest usage package there is plenty of scope for the average internet user.

What are the speeds I can expect to get with mobile broadband?

The speeds available for mobile broadband differ from provider to provider and start at 1.8mbps and currently reach up to 7.2mbps. Note that as with traditional broadband providers these figures are the maximum you can get on each package and in many cases you will be getting speeds lower than this.
The speeds of mobile broadband aren't up to the standard of traditional or cable providers at the moment, but are set to change in the future as more investment is put towards this technology.

How easy is mobile broadband to set up?

Mobile broadband is easy to set up, and you should have no problem getting an internet connection immediately. The mobile broadband providers modems come with pre-installed software which will install on your computer when you plug in your dongle.
Therefore all you need to do is plug in your dongle, open your internet browser and you have a broadband connection available on the move.
