Pay as you go mobile broadband

Pay as you go mobile broadband is now here and available through a number of mobile phone providers. With these tariffs you generally don't pay a monthly charge and just pay for what you use as you use it.

You are charged a set rate for each MB that you download and therefore the more you download the more you pay.

A lot of mobile broadband deals have a limited download allowance, which can be as little as 1GB. Once you exceed this limit you generally automatically switch to a pay as you go service (except T-mobile which applies a fair usage limit to their packages), which leaves your service uninterrupted, but also leaves you open to expensive usage charges.

With PAYG mobile broadband you will need to pay a set up fee which will essentially be paying for your USB modem, data card or donglr and this can cost anything up to £100.

This type of tariff is not recommended for heavy downloader's, or those that want the flexibility to download what they want, when they want. It is more suitable for those who use the internet sparingly and cant justify signing up to a long term deal.
